Basal Buds,

2021

Mixed media

78x98cm,

$750

After a bush fire dead trees can sprout new branches, this is due to the basal buds that are hidden within the bark. This painting’s black marks and bright layered colours remind me of new growth among destruction. The brush strokes are gestural and tentative to show the natural imperfections in painting and of the human body.

‘Poolside’

2021,

Gouache,

780 x 980mm,

$750

This piece reminds me of sitting by the pool on a Sunday afternoon with a cold drink. The colours blend and relax effortlessly together making a harmonious landscape. The gouache bleeds are prominent and intentional indicating a release of control, similar to floating in a pool with your eyes shut.
