An artist in the pursuit of social change, Lyons constantly seeks to convey strong narrative and meaning through her photographic practice.

Weeds n’ Wildflowers explores one of society’s most critical human issues, The Environment. Focusing on Australian seasonal native flowers and introduced species/weeds these botanical portraits aim to emphasize the beauty of our native flora and the serious care needed to maintain the landscapes in which they grow. Although extremely beautiful the images are the artists way of highlighting the devastating impact that introduced weeds, human activity and land clearing for development have on the delicate balance of the spectacular native Australian biosphere.

Photographer Charmaine Lyons is best recognized for her unique, portrait work, haunting photographs that capture not only the image but the soul of the people who sit before her.

Exhibiting both nationally and internationally with group exhibitions in Orlando Florida, Melbourne, Brisbane, and the Sunshine Coast. The most recent solo exhibition WOMEN UNITED, saw Lyons travel four states photographing 200 ordinary, extraordinary women throughout rural, regional and urban Australia. WOMEN UNITED opened to rave reviews at the Gympie Regional Gallery in 2020. She is a participant of the 2020 Loud and Luminous project,  Equality, 1 of 100 female photographers chosen to exhibit at Contact Sheet Gallery in Sydney.

An artist in the pursuit of social change, Lyons constantly seeks to convey strong narrative and meaning through her photographic practice. Her startling and sometimes jarring images of cancer survivors, the ill and the distressed are captured with the desire to instigate societal change by helping to inform the community of these issues.

Images in the media of women marching, calling out injustice and inequality, provoked a photographic response from artist, Charmaine Lyons. In a portraiture gallery of two hundred Ordinary/Extraordinary women, Charmaine captures the essence, the voice, of each subject as Women United.

With diverse images of women in their own spaces, we are challenged to reflect on and respond to, the embodied story in each portrait.
