Anne Harris - Original 'Wildflower Plant Study'

Finding ways to make sense and record the landscape, using the natural pigments contained within the plants, in a direct heat transfer onto the fabric allows for a sustainable process of creating art. This gives a voice to the plants, and allows the embodiment of the medicine held in the plant to be absorded into my work, creating a mnemonic code of re-membering our interconnectedness to all things.

Anne Harris - Print ‘Leaf- Renew’

Working with a 1000 year old Eucalyptus Tree that had fallen led me on a five year journey of learning and connection. Some of the leaves were used to create this series of work, that follows the lifecycle of Endings, Walking side by side, New Beginnings and Renewal. A lot of the wood went back into the community as sculpted native bee hives that honour the history, culture and stories embedded in the people, the country, and in its plants. Anne Harris - Print ‘Mars Dark Wallum’

Working with the Wildflowers I looked at the emotions that flow through me, the layers of landscape that you see when you look into the Wallum (heathland where these flowers mostly grow) are reflected in the internal landscape of women. Mars represents the masculine aspect within, spiralling out, to understand what it is to do.

Working with the Wildflowers I looked at the emotions that flow through me, the layers of landscape that you see when you look into the Wallum (heathland where these flowers mostly grow) are reflected in the internal landscape of women, as she moves through her journey from maiden, to mother, to maga to crone.

Anne Harris - Original ‘She Oak Plant Study I’

The She Oak or Casuarina is a plant I love working with, she is gentle and has that mysterious language if you stand near her quietly on a windy day. She is a women’s tree, and when you see groves of her along the coastline often in sheltered places where women and children have gathered since time began, I see how she holds space and creates a carpet of protection with her leaves when they fall. Snakes also do not like to crawl on these fallen leaves, there is a story shared from the D’harawal first nation people in NSW that tells more of these grandmother trees.

Anne Harris - Original ‘Me and Mum’

“My dear girl, the day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through. If when we talk, I repeat the same thing a thousand times, don’t interrupt to say: “You said the same thing a minute ago”... Just listen, please. Try to remember the times when you were little and I would read the same story night after night until you would fall asleep…

And when my old, tired legs don’t let me move as quickly as before, give me your hand the same way that I offered mine to you when you first walked. When those days come, don’t feel sad... just be with me, and understand me while I get to the end of my life with love. I’ll cherish and thank you for the gift of time and joy we shared. With a big smile and the huge love I’ve always had for you, I just want to say, “I love you.”

Anne Harris - Original ‘Tracey and Becky’

“When I found out I was sick I was strong, very strong until the moment I had to tell my girls. Even then I was strong until I was alone. It was the most hideous time. The treatment was a breeze compared to those moments of watching the fear in their eyes”. Tracey
