Zartisha Davis 'Shell Midden'

$1,500.00

Acrylic on canvas

110 x 74 cm

This painting represents the Shell Middens you may find along coastal areas created by saltwater tribes like the Murulla people within the Kabi Kabi nation and language group who were shellfish eaters. These middens were created as a special place to put all shells, fish bones ect to keep the area clean and ensure no one in the tribe would step on shells and bones. This specific shell midden to me represents our close connection to the saltwater and sea country. To me this piece represents the beginning of one of the first midden being created by my people and the shells being placed on the midden for the first time and the flow and harmony of our coexistence with the land and sea country.
