The Bunbiya (turtle) is one of the many salt water animals found on Quandamooka Country. To me the bunbiya represents strength, resilience, and the unspoken connection to Country. The Shell of the bunbiya- strong, and protective- strength. The lifecycle- battling the odds from the moment of hatching- resilience. The female Bunbiya returns to the same nesting grounds where she was born to lay her own eggs, staying connected and returning to Country to birth. Instinctually knowing that Country is safe and for her and her babies.
