“Ancestor's message”

Acrylic on canvas

30.5cm x 30.5cm

 $190

There's messages all around, they can be seen in the earth, the trees and the waters. Our ancestors send us these messages from the Dreaming to help guide us. Stop, listen, learn. Know you are guided by your ancestors, your people, always by your side.

“Bunbiya Journey”

Acrylic on canvas

 20cm x 25xm

 $130

The Bunbiya (turtle) is one of the many salt water animals found on Quandamooka Country. To me the bunbiya represents strength, resilience, and the unspoken connection to Country. The Shell of the bunbiya- strong, and protective- strength. The lifecycle- battling the odds from the moment of hatching- resilience. The female Bunbiya returns to the same nesting grounds where she was born to lay her own eggs, staying connected and returning to Country to birth. Instinctually knowing that Country is safe and for her and her babies.

Giwa (Goanna) is often seen on Quandamooka Country. Growing up seeing Giwa roaming around on Minjerribah, Travelling around from tree to tree. You see his tracks in the sand. Giwa can be found basking in the sun. This painting represents the Giwa travelling paths, and him basking in the warm sun rays.

Alot of my artworks represent the connection between mother and child. The connection that is formed from the beginning, and never broken. The soul's connection.

My name’s Jill Delaney, the artist behind Mirigan Art. I am a proud Quandamooka woman and am blessed to say that painting and sharing stories is a part of me, it’s in my soul. I watched my mother Nuuna paint every day from a young age. She shared stories, Culture and healed through her artworks. It wasn't until after my sons were born that I regularly started picking up a paint brush. This is when Mirigan Art was created.

Mirigan means Star in Jandai Language. When I was a young girl and would paint with my mum I would sign my artwork- Mirigan. The name is a tribute to my mum, to the memories I will always have of us together painting and yarning.

I draw inspiration from my Country- Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), from Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi Country in which I live, my family, stories shared with me, dreams, and motherhood.  A lot of my artwork depicts stories of the unspoken and unbroken connection between mother and child, the nurturing spirit of the mother and her strength. Experiencing motherhood, and loss of my own mum has influenced the stories I share through my art. Painting is a way for me to heal and to share my culture with my kids.

Thank you for supporting my art journey. Jill- Mirigan Art
