Hope O’Chin

‘Dreaming Hope (Artist Self Portrait)’

As you can see from the painting that there is a combination of when I could dream from the time I was born, my youth,  and as an elder (deep in my eyes and in my face) remembering what it was like to dream (my stooped shoulders and hands tell of the challenges of life).

Medium: Acrylics on Canvas

A Koa Dreaming

Medium: Digital Print of tumbleweed Painted Art on the Print in Acrylics on Canvas

My art of tumbleweeds on arid desert like lands of outback Winton, reminded all in poem and subsequent song of the West’s iterant workers. Such prose and lyrics by Banjo Patterson tell the story that Once a Jolly Swagman passed by a billabong, of nesting Pelican’s grand. This song, this poem, laid out the history of the newcomer to this ancient land of ancient ancestorial beings, founded on lore, law, governance, culture, heritage of storylines, songlines and more, for Koa mob and more, my art depicts this all. The important elements of Winton’s yesterday, today and Winton’s future are captured in the foreground of the art by this original First Nation’s artist, educator, researcher and author. From Dinosaurs, the birdlife, animals, and plants of the wetlands today are all interwoven into this artwork which features the scavengers that clear straight roads of road kill, once inland Sea, now meets Matilda.
